Alex Epstein wins the first Short Deck WSOP bracelet

Alex Epstein has etched his name in history books after winning the inaugural short-deck WSOP tournament.

Epstein, a pot limit Omaha specialist, won the $10,000 Short Deck No Limit Hold’em event for $296,227. Since WSOP just rolled out the short-deck variant during the 50th edition of the tournament, no one else can claim he/she has ever won a short-deck event at the WSOP.

Even though Epstein is an exemplary player, his tournament resume is not extensive. As a matter of fact, the short-deck event is the first event he has ever won at the WSOP.

Also, before his landmark win, he only had a measly $115,000 live tournament earnings to his name. He is more of a cash game specialist. However, he has just shown to the world that he can be an all-around player.

Alex Epstein leveraged on small field

The short-deck event was expected to attract a massive field. However, that was not the case. The tournament only attracted 114 players who gladly paid the $10,000 buy-in. Considering the buzz the event had created when it was first announced by WSOP, the turn-out was way below the expectations.

However, WSOP’s misfortune is definitely Epstein’s luck. He easily played his way to his first WSOP bracelet, albeit against competitive opponents.

Some of the live poker mainstays who cashed-in include chance Kornuth, Andrew Robl, Justin Bonomo, and Alex Foxen. Chance Kornuth doubles up as a poker coach, and he finished fourth for $93,583. Andrew Robl finished 7th for $35,907. Alex Foxen, the 2018 GPI Player of the Year, finished 12th for $19,591 while Justin Bonomo finished 11th for $19,591.

This was Kornuth’s second deep run in 209 World Series of Poker. He reached the final table of $50,000 High Roller and was eliminated in sixth place for $251,128.

$10,000 Short Deck Final Table Results
